Vegan Pizza Dough

Those that know me closest know that I couldn’t live without two of my favorite things: pizza and cats. So you know I had to make up a recipe for my favorite way to make vegan pizza dough.

Since becoming vegan, one of the foods I was missing the most was a really great pizza. Up until recently, there were no great pizza places by me that catered towards vegans. Additionally, my new favorite vegan pizza place is about an hour away. Because of this, I wanted to create a consistent recipe that I could keep coming back to for amazing homemade vegan pizza dough.

Everything about this vegan pizza dough recipe is amazing. For instance, it comes together so quickly, the flavor is spot on, it is easily customizable, and works great for pizza, calzones, & Stromboli’s.

I will literally never use another store bought pizza dough again! There is something so satisfying about making vegan pizza dough from scratch. On that note, lets get making!

Making Vegan Pizza Dough from Scratch

The first thing you want to do is gather your ingredients, and a medium to large mixing bowl with a lid. If you do not have a lid, make sure you have a large towel or plate to sit on top of the bowl easily.

Vegan Pizza Dough Ingredients

Mix Dry Ingredients

  • Mix all the dry ingredients extremely well in a large mixing bowl
  • Flavoring the dough: Without any seasonings, this pizza dough still taste really delicious. However, if you’re looking for a little extra flavor, I love to mix in 1/4 tsp. of garlic powder and onion powder. For something a little more herby, 1/4 tsp. of oregano, or Bragg Organic Sprinkle works great!

Add Water & Oil

  • Add warm (not hot) water and oil together. Create a divet in the center of the bowl, and pour the water & oil into it. With a large spatula, mix the dough well until combined. Then, fold the dough over eachother 3-5 times until it is a perfect ball of dough!

Resting & Rising

  • In the same bowl, brush a dab of olive oil all over the bottom and sides of the bowl. Roll the vegan pizza dough against the olive so all sides are covered (this will prevent the dough from sticking to the side of the bowl as it rises). Cover the bowl and set in a warm place for 30-45 minutes until it rises.

Finish & Bake

  • Once the vegan pizza dough rises, remove from the bowl onto a floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on top of the pizza dough, then knead the dough about 5 times. At this point, let the dough sit another 5-10 minutes. After, using your hands or a Rolling pin, roll the dough until it is about 1/4″ thick and either round or square, depending on how you’re cooking it!
  • Pre-heat an oven at 425 degrees F for a Stromboli, or 450 degrees F for a pizza. Bake for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  • If you are making this ahead of time, the vegan pizza dough will save great in an airtight container in the fridge for a week. Before cooking, let sit out in room temperature for about 30 minutes until baking. If freezing, make sure to thaw for 2-3 hours or until soft enough to roll out! Enjoy!
